This Christmas cocktail will be a hit at the Christmas party, what’s better than boozy eggnog on Christmas Eve? Maybe boozy eggnog with whipped cream, nutmeg, and cinnamon on top. This Christmas cocktail, coffee, and dessert please!
But you don’t have to wait for dessert to drink this festive Christmas cocktail, you can have them anytime without the whipped cream topping. I should know, I’ve been slamming these all month long, and to think I used to hate eggnog?! Crazy, I know.
Christmas Cocktail Debate: Amaretto vs. Spiced Rum
When I made these for my parents for the first time, my dad was confused as to why I was stealing his unopened bottle of amaretto instead of using the very open bottle of spiced rum that lives in the liquor cabinet for when I’m feeling a little dark and stormy. (Don’t worry, yes I bought him another bottle of Amaretto, it’s currently sitting under our Christmas tree.)
Apparently people used spiced rum in eggnog? Like I said I didn’t really like eggnog before, or maybe I just never took the time to try it. Apparently my mom LOVES eggnog which surprised me because I’ve never seen her drinking it or buying it around this time of year.
Credit Where Credit is Due
So confusingly, my mom never tried to share her love of eggnog with me. But do you know who did? Philip, my boyfriend, I know, shocking, I’ve definitely never written this exact sentence in other blog posts lol. One day last year, as we were late night grocery shopping for my mom and Happy Stirring, he grabbed a carton of eggnog. I was skeptical, not going to lie, but I went along with it. We popped over to the wine & liquor place next to the grocery store and he grabbed a bottle of amaretto, and I’ve never looked at eggnog the same way. You can thank Phil for this wonderful creation and for opening my eyes!
I polished off a whole carton by myself last night while celebrating Christmas eve eve with my parents. Did I wake up hungover this morning and very dehydrated? Yes. But was this delicious Christmas cocktail worth it? Also yes, it was a great, festive themed night, drinking eggnog with my mom (she had her own carton,) and cooking together. That’s what Christmas is about right? Getting sloshed with your parents and relatives. I know tonight I’ll be hitting some wine at my family Christmas eve party! But hopefully I’ll remember to drink a little more water too! Gotta stay hydrated!
